Our Green Commitment

Cultivating a Sustainable Future

At Sheboygan Senior Community, we understand that a healthy environment contributes directly to the well-being of our residents and staff. Our campus is designed to support both people and nature, integrating sustainability into daily life. From our solar array to rain gardens and pollinator-friendly plantings, we are actively creating a greener, healthier environment that enhances resident experience and community impact.

Growing Greener

Why It Matters

Sustainable practices at SSC go beyond environmental stewardship—they directly support our mission to provide a holistic, enriching environment for seniors. By investing in the health of our campus and community, we are creating spaces where residents can thrive, connect, and live with dignity, safety, and joy.

Renewable Energy Generation

Our ground-mounted solar array offsets over 28 percent of our annual electricity use, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.

Water Conservation

The introduction of White Dutch Clover has reduced irrigation needs by 50 percent, conserving water while enriching outdoor spaces.

Biodiversity and Pollinator Support

Native plants, rain gardens, and planned tree plantings attract pollinators and wildlife, creating vibrant outdoor spaces for residents to enjoy.

Functional, Beautiful Spaces

Accessible garden beds, scenic trails, and our Pollinator and People Friendly Project enhance the beauty and usability of our campus, supporting wellness, social engagement, and connection to nature.

Paul Treffert

Paul Treffert has been part of the SSC team since February 2016.

Why he loves working at SSC:

SSC represents everything that I have always thought was possible in long-term care but had never found anywhere else:  a beautiful setting, a ‘state of the art’ facility, all private rooms, and most importantly, the very best senior care and services provided by an outstanding team of dedicated caregivers.  What else could you ask for?

Names of family members and pets:

Rachel, Emily, Dagan, Ali, and Buddy the dog.

One favorite thing about Sheboygan County:

My favorite thing about Sheboygan County is that it is big and dynamic enough to have great quality of life (restaurants, entertainment, parks, etc) but still feels like a small town where everyone knows and looks out for each other.
