About SSC

Sheboygan Senior Community is a faith-based nonprofit serving Sheboygan area seniors since 1962. Founded in by Dr. T. Parry Jones and dedicated members of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Sheboygan Senior Community is proud of its faith-based heritage. Since then, SSC expanded services and has grown into our current location on 40 acres of land off County Road Y in the Town of Sheboygan. Our move was made possible in large part to the SSC Foundation and a few generous donors. We look forward to continuous growth to meet and exceed the needs of our community’s seniors.

1945
First Methodist Church

Our roots date back to 1945. First Methodist Church (now St. Luke United Methodist) purchased an adjacent house and lot for future use, and soon after rented it to a church couple in need of low cost housing.

  • Purchased a 2-apartment house on the adjoining street.
  • Bought another smaller house.
  • All rented to needy church members at low cost.
  • The church already owned two lots on the block, so they bought one more to begin what would become SSC.
1962-1966
Dr. T. Parry Jones

We were founded as a nonprofit home for men and women age 65 and older in 1962 in large part due to Dr. T. Parry Jones, former minister of First Methodist Church.

  • Sheboygan Retirement Home opened its doors!
  • In 1966, a four apartment home was purchased, bringing the total number of apartments to 14.
  • Also in 1966, our Articles of Incorporation were amended, changing the corporate name from Sheboygan Methodist Home for the Aged to Sheboygan Retirement Home, Inc.
1968-1981
History of Sheboygan Senior Community
First Expansion
  • We broke ground in 1968 to move one of the apartment buildings, connecting it to another similar building on the property. This combined unit was eventually demolished when SSC expanded in 1980 to include a health center.
  • On July 1, 1970 we opened our doors to the first residents. We were the only nonprofit institution in Sheboygan providing independent retirement living and nursing care (through an infirmary) for seniors.
  • By 1978, we knew the need for a true skilled nursing care facility was imminent. The State approved the request for 84 total skilled care beds.
  • Beach Health Care Center nursing home was added to existing buildings thanks to the donation from the Beach family.
1996
Major Renovations

Major renovations to the old 6th Street building include expanded dining rooms and kitchens and an outside deck on the east side of the Sheboygan Senior Community nursing home.

  • Landmark was finally completed on May 1, 2008 and opened its doors as Sheboygan’s newest independent living facility for seniors.
  • Tragedy struck when an arsonist set the nearly completed Landmark Square condos on fire in 2007.
  • In May 2006, construction began on the independent living condo association, Landmark Square.
